Outtakes
Philosophers and writers from Blaise Pascal to
Mark Twain are credited with some form of this
maxim: If I’d had more time I would have
written it shorter. Author Stephen King has
advised writers to “kill your darlings…even
when it breaks your egocentric little
scribbler’s heart…”
Indeed, cutting
The
FOG MACHINE down to size required much
time and the sacrificing of scenes and passages
close to my heart. With distance from its
publication, I regret some of those choices more
than others.
Enjoy these posts that reflect on scenes cut
from
The
FOG MACHINE
and the life events that have brought them back
for me.
